Message from Co-Chairs

- Rebecca Attenborough (Halifax, NS) and Dr. Renato Natale (London, ON)

The National Primary Maternity Care Committee serves as the advisory group and communication vehicle for the Multidisciplinary Collaborative Primary Maternity Care Project (MCP2 ). The Committee will facilitate the development and adoption of a common set of guidelines, terminology and scopes of practice for collaborative maternity care and will address issues related to the harmonization of relevant legislation and policies. This Committee includes 27 representatives from national and provincial stakeholders involved in primary maternity care, from governments as well as maternity care consumers from various regions across the country.

Each representative appointed to this committee is committed to the project and has agreed to actively participate in one of the project working groups. These groups will share opinions and experiences and explore in more detail the findings and opportunities related to:

  • Public Policy
  • Research / Evaluation
  • Model Development
  • Harmonization / Medical Legal
  • Communication

The activities of the National Primary Maternity Care Committee will be instrumental in ensuring a solid basis for the sustainability of efforts initiated within the framework of MCP2. Most importantly, regular communication among national, provincial and territorial organizations and active involvement of representatives from a variety of sectors will have an impact on the establishment of multidisciplinary collaborative primary maternity care models across Canada.
